2004 YEAR END RECAP of what our group has been doing

Our yahoo group started July 10th of 2004 with just two people – Karen and myself. We have grown to our year end membership of 145 people.

For Christmas we sent out

118 Christmas trees sent to units in Iraq, Afghanistan, Japan and Kosovo plus we helped decorate 10 of Bears trees for his troops – with our handmade ornaments.

And 723 stockings with goodies in them

Hats and slippers

343 hats that I know of (I’m sure some of you mailed to your assigned units as well as to those that we were assigned to send hats to)

plus a unit of 115 we helped send hats to

and 43 sets of slippers (that I am aware of)

We also have hats and slippers on standby ready to be mailed to our Combat Surgical Hospital as soon as our new contact has been identified. SO KEEP CROCHETING FOR THEM – We will send off boxes of hats and slippers to them as soon as we have their address’s.

361 squares have been sent in since September 1st and – 201 of them showed up here today – so guess what I’m going to be doing this weekend – putting squares together.

Care packages – I did not keep track of any care packages but I know that many have been sent to units who needed extra goodies, hungry men who were only getting fed MRE’s everyday, a unit who lost everything in a fire, Sailors who were not getting mail – I sent out stockings to some of them and I’m going to mail out valentines to some I’m supporting on ships (they will be mailed Monday as it take a lot longer for items to get to the ships then it does to Iraq or Afghanistan).

Our group has mailed out many cards and letters to those not getting any mail.
